Rajasthan International Folk Festival

Kavi Bhansali

This eclectic festival, which is the first of its kind in India, shows the roots of the local music and art. It's a heady mix of interactive educational events, performances begin scene, jam sessions and late into the night. Among the artists, singers, dancers, musicians and storytellers from various popular towns of Rajasthan and recognized national and international artists. The festival has a fantastic location in and around the imposing Mehrangarh Fort.

Diwali

Diwali marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and is celebrated as a victory of light over darkness. Many small clay lamps (diyas calls) and candles are lit and placed in homes, and fireworks are everywhere do what its name Diwali "Festival of Lights". The people also clean and decorate their houses with Rangoli (Hindu folk art), buy new clothes, play games and give gifts and sweets during the festival.

  • Where: Anywhere in India, except in the southern state of Kerala.

Chhath Puja

The Festival of North India, traditionally celebrated by people from Bihar, has also grown into a great opportunity to Mumbai. Chhat Puja is dedicated to the worship of the sun. People flock to Juhu beach, offer prayers to the Sun God at sunset. Hymns and folk songs sung, and fast and pray for the welfare of their families and friends, women.

  • When: October 27, 2014 (afternoon prayer Chhath Sandhya Argh).
  • Where: Juhu Beach, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The banks of the Ganges in Varanasi is also another tourist site to see.

Pushkar

The traditional festival of the Indian style seen an astonishing 50,000 camels converge on the tiny desert town of Pushkar. The camels are dressed, shaved, entered into beauty pageants, parades, run, and traded. A really fun show!

  • Where: Pushkar, Rajasthan.

Kolayat Fair (Feria de Kapil Muni)

The largest fair of Bikaner district in the desert state of Rajasthan in India, Kolayat exhibition brings together a large cattle market with a pilgrimage to the holy city of the lake. It's all a show like buffalo, camels, horses and cattle are traded and pilgrims bathe and sound float lanterns on the lake.

  • Where: near Kolayat Bikaner.
